Day started out in the pouring rain;cool. Thankful that he brought rain gear. Pulled over by a state trooper and not for speeding. Ralf was cycling on a 'restricted' hwy. He said he didn't see the warning sign but I've heard that line from him many times before....ask him about our Sunday afternoon drive into the Millhaven (penitentiary) compound....we drove right up to the 3rd row of barbed wire fence before guards with sawed off shot guns were ordering us out of our car... and Ralf didn't see the warning signs "DO NOT ENTER PREMISES"... so he says??
State trooper followed Ralf until he was able to leave restricted hwy. Crossed the bridge over the Mississippi River which originates in Minnesota. He will follow the Mississippi Valley down to Minneapolis.
Had coffee at a gas station in Little Falls after left restricted hwy. Coffee took chill out of rain soaked body.
Rain stopped around noon. Crosswinds in face all day. 93 miles done. Cool,cloudy. 3 flats yesterday;1 today. Went into Minneapolis to avoid interstate. Hwy turned into interstate at Minneapolis.
Baseball game and concert tomorrow nite in Minneapolis so unable to get hotel room. Took taxi to hotel outside of ciy-La Quinta Inns and Suites. Hotel close to where Ralf can start biking again-where interstate ends.
Plans to go across Minnesota and Wisconsin in next 21/2 days to catch boat in Manitowoc (departs 1:50 pm) to Ludington Michigan (arrive 7 pm).
Temperature in the high 30's for the next few days :{
